Influence of angular position on radar gun peak cricket ball speed measurements

The purpose of this study was to determine the agreement in peak ball speed measured using a radar gun and motion capture system then examine influence angular position. Peak recorded with in-line trajectory (0° offset) at 5° offsets up 35°. Agreement between devices calculated 0° for grouped offset bins (0–5°, 10–15°, 20–25°, 30–35°). At 0°, strong correlation (r = 0.99) intraclass coefficient (.984) were observed systematic overestimation by (1.7 ± 0.8 m/s). residual 30–35° significantly different both 0–5° (p < .001) 10–15° offsets. consistently overestimated ~20° thus can be positioned out line-of-throw avoid obstructions.
